Dawn started out as a singer in Tanjong Katong Girls’ School and Victoria Junior College choirs, both in which she served as section leader and student conductor. Upon graduation, Dawn’s passion for singing led her to join the Victoria Chorale, VJC’s alumni choir, where she led the choir as its assistant conductor.
Dawn has since obtained a Performer’s Certificate Distinction from Trinity College London, and was also awarded the Hedy King Robinson Prize by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, for outstanding performance in Theory of Music.
Under Dawn’s direction, her choirs have gone on to achieve outstanding results in both local and international choral competitions. In the 2007 Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging for secondary school choirs, Dawn led Nan Chiau High School from a previously Bronze award to its first ever Gold Award. The choir also emerged champions in the Youth Category of the 21st Century Choral and Dance Festival 2007 held in Genting, Malaysia, and was awarded the “Most Outstanding Choir” Award for the competition.
More recently, in the 2008 SYF Central Judging for primary school choirs, Dawn led Ai Tong School from Silver to a Gold (with Honours) award, and the choir was then invited to perform at the 2008 SYF Choral Presentation. Under her leadership, Nan Hua High School also emerged category winner in Orientale Concentus, an international choral competition held in Suzhou, China in July 2008.
