Benedict’s experience of working with choirs started from his college days at Nanyang Junior College where he was student conductor of the choir. It was his affiliation to the school choir that later brought him to Consonance, an amateur youth choir which started its life as an alumni choir of NYJC, to take on the role of choral director in 2003.

Trained as a classical pianist, Benedict first started his work as an accompanist for school choirs. At the same time, he was also constantly arranging music and performing with several a cappella groups. He quickly found his passion in choral music and moved into conducting some time after mid-2003, and choral conducting had been his main bulk of work since then.

To date, Benedict has worked with many children, youth and adult choirs. Under his baton, St Nicholas Girls’ (Primary) achieved their first Gold award in SYF 2006 and Raffles Girls’ Primary school their unprecedented Gold with Honours award in SYF 2008. Benedict has also performed with the Philharmonic Chamber Chorus in Bach’s “B minor Mass” and continues to perform actively and record with his a cappella group Key Elements because he believes that as a music educator, he also needs to be a practitioner.
