Darius graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with both a Bachelor of Music (with honours) in Piano Performance and a Diploma in Composition with Music Technology. He also holds a Licentiate Diploma (LTCL) from the Trinity College of Music (with distinction). The Silver Medalist of the 6th Asian Youth Music Competition, Darius has also won numerous other prizes in both local and international music competitions including the Gold Prizes in both the 2nd and 3rd Asia International Piano Academy, Festival and Competition in Korea and the First prize in the Open Category of the 2006 Cristofori Piano Competition. He was also awarded the Friendship Prize in the 3rd Asia International Piano Academy, Festival and Competition in Korea for outstanding musician.

One of the two recipients of the prestigious Yamaha Music Scholarship in 2004, Darius has been actively involved in the choral scene since the age of 8 when he first started singing in choirs. At 16, he started conducting choirs that have gone on to win numerous accolades and awards in national competitions.

Darius’ diverse musical experience at a tender age soon led him to conducting larger ensembles. Chorus Director for the combined choirs of “Phua Chu Kang- The Musical” in 2004 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium when he was 18, he then led the 300-strong chorus in “ASEANAPOL in Harmony 2007” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and the 250-strong combined choir of Community-Chest Foundation’s “Unity in Diversity” in 2009 at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

In April 2010, Darius’ first participation in the Singapore Youth Festival saw him conducting Junyuan Primary School Choir in singing two of his choral works as choice pieces to clinch their first ever Gold with Honours award in the 2010 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Choirs (SYF 2010).

Most recently, in July 2010, Darius led Greendale Secondary School Choir in clinching the Gold Award at the 3rd Orientale Concentus International Choral Festival held in Yilan, Taiwan. The choir also emerged as the Category Champion for Youth Equal Voices category.

Currently resident conductor of the National University of Singapore Society Choir, Darius is also the conductor of Jurong Junior College Choir, Temasek Polytechnic Choir, East Spring Secondary School Choir, Greendale Secondary School Choir, Pei Hwa Secondary School Choir, Queenstown Secondary School Choir, Junyuan Primary School Choir and the Choir of the Divine Mercy.

In January 2007, Darius was appointed instructor of the Singapore Police Force Choir and composer of the Singapore Police Force Band as his vocation to his 2-year national service. In June 2008, the Seraphim Choir, under Darius’ musical direction, released their debut album “Moments” under the Summit Label.

As a composer, Darius has written music for Mediacorp and Dream Forest Studios. Some of his music can be heard on TV programmes such as Kids Central and on shows such as the “Heart-landers”. His compositions have been aired over the local radio station, News Radio FM93.8. Also, his song “Live Our Dreams” won him the 3rd Prize in the 2006 National Arts Quest Music and Song-Writing Competition. Darius was also the lyricist for the theme song of Singapore United 2008. His piece “Four Fantasies” for Piano Trio was also premiered in Seoul in August 2006. In 2008, His songs “Live Our Dreams” and “Shine Your Way!” were also performed at the 2008 Singapore Paralympic Council Opening Ceremony.

In 2007, Darius’ arrangement of the local song “Rasa Sayang” arranged for marching band and Scottish pipers and his song “In One Voice” written for band and chorus was performed by the ASEAN Police Band and the Combined Choirs at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Darius has also presented his musical and choral works at the 2008 Singapore Song-Writer’s Showcase which have been received with much acclaim.
