<p><span class="text_exposed_show">This event is held at Commonwealth Secondary School Auditorium</span><span class="visible">, 698 West Coast Road,  Singapore (608784)</span><span class="text_exposed_show"> on Dec 18th 11:30am - 1pm.</span></p>
<p><span class="text_exposed_show">Tickets are priced $50 per adult, $10 per student (up to tertiary level) and must be paid at the door. </span><span class="text_exposed_show">This event is free for all CDAS members. If you are not yet a member of CDAS, the membership fee is included in the workshop price and if you meet the membership criteria, you can join us at no additional cost.<br />

<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">Huimin started singing in the choir and performing at the age of 6 and undergo classical voice training at the age of 13. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">At the age of 15, Huimin also started conducting as a student conductor in CHIJ Toa Payoh Secondary School and Catholic Junior College. </span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">As the president of CHIJ Secondary School Choir 2001-2002 she has been to Australia International Music Festival, Sydney and received Gold award. </span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">In her own solo singing, she has also presented Singapore at 7th international arts and music competition, Japan, Takasaki, at the age of 15 with a Merit award and travelled to Hong Kong with the Singapore Police Force as student ambassador. </span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">Huimin has been featured on the Chinese newspaper and Straits Times as a classical performer and a songwriter when she was 17 as well as receiving her Associate Diploma (ATCL) in classical singing at 17. She has been featured in various performances such as MOSAIC at Esplanade. As well as doing backup singing for “<em>Dont Forget The Lyrics”</em>, Mediacorp, Channel 5, Channel 8, APEC and for international renowned stars. </span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">Huimin has also received the National Arts Council Bursary Award in 2007 as an honors degree holder from Lasalle College of he Arts, majoring in classical voice. </span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">Currently, she is a full time choral director. Schools under her baton have received Silver and Gold awards. </span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span id="more-119"></span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Hak Luen started his choral journey singing in one of Singapore’s premier community choir, The Vocal Consort, where he develops his knowledge of singing and conducting skills under the baton of Mr Nelson Kwei. He attended many conducting masterclasses and lessons around the world given by Mr Gabor Hollerung, Mr Eric Whitacre, Dr Joshua Habermann, Mr Leon Tong, Dr Jeffrey Carter, Prof. John Paul Johnson and Dr Zechariah Goh. Under the guidence of Mr Nelson Kwei and coupled with years of conducting experiences, Hak Luen received</span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"> the <strong>Fellowship of London College of Music in Choral Conducting</strong> in May 2011.</span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"> He also received voice coaching from Dr Wong Su Sun and Mr Thomas Kuek and has obtained Professional <strong>Performance Certificate</strong> (Baritone) and <strong>ATCL</strong> <strong>Recital</strong> (Counter-Tenor) from the Trinity College of Music, London.<br />
</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In 2007, he led Tanjong Katong Secondary School Choir to win <strong>2 Gold Awards</strong> and <strong>1 Category Winner</strong> in the <strong><em>3rd A Voyage of Songs</em></strong>, International Choral Competition in Pattaya, Thailand. Following the success in Thailand, he directed Tanjong Katong Secondary School Choir to its second <strong>Gold Award</strong> in the <strong><em>2nd Grand Prix St Petersburg Choral Competition</em></strong> in Russia together with Mr Nelson Kwei in June 2008.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In April 2008, he led Catholic High School (Primary) Choir to their first <strong>Gold with Honours Award</strong> in the <strong><em>2008 SYF Central Judging for Choirs (Primary)</em></strong>. Hak Luen then conducted Meridian Junior College Choir in June to clinch <strong>2 Gold Awards</strong>, <strong>1</strong> <strong>Category Winner</strong> and <strong>Overall 2nd Place</strong> in the <strong><em>36th Festival Of Songs</em></strong> held in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Following that in July, he brought Commonwealth Secondary School Choir to compete in <strong><em>Orientale Concentus</em></strong>, International Choral Competition in Suzhou, China and clinched the <strong>Gold Award</strong> plus <strong>Category Winner</strong> for the Mixed Youth Choir category.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In 2009, Hak Luen led Commonwealth Secondary School Choir and Meridian Junior College Choir to attain <strong>Gold with Honours</strong> in the <strong><em>2009 SYF Central Judging for Choirs (Secondary/JC)</em></strong> and became the first and only choral conductor in Singapore to have choirs receiving <strong>Gold with Honours Awards</strong> at the Primary, Secondary and Junior College level. He was then selected to be the deputy conductor for a new choir under the new <strong>Music Talent Development Center (MTDC) </strong>programme headed by the Co-Curricular Activities Board (MOE) to train young choristers in the west zone.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In July 2009, he brought The Vocal Consort to Hang Zhou, China to compete in <em><strong>Orientale Concentus II,</strong></em> International Choral Competition and not only did the choir emerge as <strong>Champions</strong> for both the Chamber Choir &amp; Mixed Choir Category, they went on and claim the <strong>Grand Prize</strong> of the festival. Hak Luen was also awarded the <strong>Most Outstanding Conductor Award</strong> for his excellent results in the festival.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In April 2010, Hak Luen led Meridian Junior College choir to win a <strong>Gold Award</strong> and 1st Runner-up position in the <em><strong>11th Concorso Corale Internazionale</strong></em> choral competition in Riva Del Garda, Italy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Hak Luen currently conducts Meridian Junior College Choir, St. Andrew Junior College Choir, Commonwealth Secondary School Choir, Clementi Town Secondary School Choir, South View Primary School Choir and Tanjong Katong Primary School Choir. He is also the deputy conductor of Tanjong Katong Secondary School Choir, MTDC (West) Choir and The Vocal Consort.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">He was recently voted as the Vice-Chairman for the Choral Directors’ Association (Singapore).</span></p>
